On the heels of the best season in team history, two junior softball players from Peaster have been named Class 3A All-State by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
Also, after reaching its first state tournament since 2010, the Brock Lady Eagles had three players receive accolades in 3A. At Aledo, a senior went out being honored in Class 5A.
Outfielder Allie Arnold and second baseman Baylee Chapman helped the Lady Greyhounds (23-8) reach the Region II championship series, the deepest playoff run in team history. They lost in two games to Brock, wrapping up Peaster's first postseason appearance since 1997.
"These two young ladies had a big part of our team's success this year. I'm proud of both girls," Peaster coach Matt Chapman said.
Chapman called Arnold "one of the best outfielders in the state." She posted a .965 fielding percentage with just two errors all season.
"Her range is amazing," he said. "She ran down fly balls that not many kids could get to."
Arnold batted .417 with six doubles, four triples and 17 runs batted in.
Chapman hit .543 with 10 doubles, three triples and 23 RBI. She was also solid in the field with a .956 percentage.
"She came up big in many playoff games and was a consistent hitter throughout the year," Chapman said.
"It is nice to have our kids recognized. In many ways this honor is a reflection of our success as a team this year."
Brock senior pitcher/outfielder Cara Tolar was joined by sophomores Anarenee Beyer (catcher) and Mattye Tyler (pitcher/third base) in being recognized. The trio were mainstays as the Lady Eagles (37-4) won District 11-3A and reached the state semifinals, setting a team record for wins.
Tolar batted .470 with 12 doubles, four home runs and 41 RBI. On the mound she was 20-3 with a 0.36 earned run average, 163 strikeouts and 36 walks in 136 innings.
Tyler hit .404 with 15 doubles, three triples, three homers and 35 RBI. As a pitcher she was a near-perfect 16-1 with a 1.90 ERA.
Beyer batted .365 with five doubles and drove in 16 runs.
"We had a lot of kids have really good years for us, very happy that TGCA recognized some of those players," Brock coach Ryan Starnes said.
Aledo's Kadyn Kirkpatrick ended her career by being named to the Class 5A team. She posted a .440 batting average in helping the Ladycats 21-12 advance three rounds into the postseason.
