It's hard to lose when your opponent doesn't score, and the Weatherford Kangaroos (11-6, 2-2 in District 4-6A) got two victories by posting consecutive shutouts in district, 1-0 at Arlington Martin and 6-0 at North Crowley.
In the win over Martin, Weatherford's Spencer Hynes had no margin for error. Though he walked five in seven innings, he gave up just four hits and struck out eight.
"It was a big win for us. Spencer did an excellent job competing," said Weatherford coach Jason Lee. "He worked ahead in the count for the most part and kept them off balance."
Nick Rodriguez drove in the game's lone run.
ASHKINOS HURLS NO-HITTER FOR BEARCATS
Jacob Ashkinos threw a no-hitter for Aledo (12-6, 3-1 in District 8-5A) in a 12-0 win at Everman. Eleven of the 15 outs he recorded were strikeouts. He issued one walk.
Ashkinos then had four hits and drove in three runs in the next game, a 10-1 win at Crowley.
MILLSAP DUO COMBINES FOR NO-NO
Millsap's Matthew Bradshaw and Spencer Auld combined to throw a no-hitter in 14-0 victory against Keene. Bradshaw pitched three innings, striking out five with no walks, and Auld struck out two with no walks in two innings.
The only two Keene batters to reach base did so on errors by Millsap (3-10-2-2 in District 11-3A).
BOLEMAN DOUBLE STANDOUT FOR EAGLES
Behind the pitching and hitting of Seth Boleman, the Brock Eagles (10-4, 4-0 in District 11-3A) stayed atop their league with a 5-0 victory against Peaster (5-8, 1-3).
Boleman pitched a two-hitter, striking out nine and walking one in seven innings. Batting, he had two hits, including a double and RBI.
"Seth was locked in from the first pitch to the last," said Brock coach Hart Herring. "He was commanding multiple pitches in the strike zone.
"When he gets in a groove and gains confidence it is really fun to watch. He works really quick and gets the defense engaged.
The performance in this game lifted Boleman's batting average to .452 with five doubles, one triple and 16 runs batted in. In district play following this game he was batting .692.
