Area trio selected for all-star basketball game

A trio of senior basketball players from the area aren’t quite finished with their high school careers.

Tracy Johnson of Poolville, Trisha Jacobs of Brock, and Parker Grudt of Peaster have been chosen to participate in the 17th Annual Texas Roundup May 19 in Maypearl.

Johnson will play for the Girls White Team and Jacobs will be on the Girls Red Team. Grudt will be on the Boys Red Team.

The day’s activities will include a 3-point shootout at 1 p.m. The girls game tips off at 2:30 and the boys follow at 4:30.

KNIGHT WINS FIRST COLLEGE TOURNAMENT

Former Aledo standout Cheyenne Knight, a freshman at the University of Alabama, led the Crimson Tide to a championship in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate recently.

Knight led the fourth-ranked Tide with a 213 over three rounds to claim top medalist honors and the first tourney title of her young college career.

Knight won the 2014 Class 4A and 215 Class 5A state championships while at Aledo.

SAGINAW TRACK MEET

The Weatherford Lady Roos track team traveled to Saginaw, finishing fifth.

Coach Courtney Wright said many girls saw marked improvements on their performances.

Among the highlights, Taylor Kuritz placed second in the 400-meter dash and fourth in the high jump, Jenna Ford was third in discus, Tyler Bowman and Cassidy Griffin tied for third in pole vault, and the 1600 relay of Jericka Graves, Alyssa Wisdom, Auburn Staples and Kuritz was third.

RIO VISTA RELAYS

Peaster and Millsap competed at the Rio Vista Relays recently. In the varsity girls division, Peaster placed third and Millsap fourth. Among varsity boys, Millsap was fifth and Peaster seventh.

Taryn Cast, Peaster, first in 400 with a time of 1:04.06, first in long jump with a 16-1.75.

Carley Scott, Peaster, second in shot put, third in discus.

Angie Cassarez, Millsap, second in 800.

Peaster 400 relay of djhoudencie Perkins, Hannah Bird, Cast, Carryngton Steed, second.

Millsap 400 relay of Brittany Schnabel, Taylor Younger, Madison Johns, Sydney Herbel, third.

Millsap 1600 relay of Herbel, Johns, Younger, Hailey Allen, third.

Steed, third in 100.

Loren Lewis, Peaster, third in 200.

Allen, third in 3200.

Boys highlights include:

Andrew Fischer, Millsap, second in 110 hurdles.

BOYD TRACK MEET

Peaster competed in the Boyd Track Meet recently. There were no field events because of the rains all week.

The varsity girls were second overall and the boys finished fifth.
