Brooke Jones scored two goals in the championship game, a 4-0 win over Waxahachie, and was named the tournament's most valuable player as the Aledo Ladycats won the Waxahachie 287 Tournament to open the high school soccer season.
Haley Knesek and Krista Thrasher also scored goals in the final. Knesek had two assists, Casey Bills had one, and Kristen Burns had one.
The Ladycats (3-0-1) tied Dallas Wilson 1-1 in the tournament openr as Kaitlin Detherage scored on a free kick. That was followed by a 6-0 victory against Ennis as Detherage scored twice, while Knesek, Jones, Thrasher and Peyton Laughley also scored. Knesek had two assist, along with one each from Laughley, Burns and Maddie Bohannon.
In Saturday's semifinal, a 1-0 win over Cedar Hill, Jones scored the lone goal off of a corner kick from Bills.
"We were able to play everyone on the roster," said Aledo coach Bryan Jones. "We got a lot of valuable minutes for what is a young bench. We found a couple of players that really stepped up this weekend.
"Looking forward to a great season. Great way to start. First tournament win for the Ladycats that wasn't our own tournament."
Bearcats second in tourney
The Bearcats (3-1) opened with a 4-2 victory over Midlothian Heritage as four players scored a goal, Joaquin Gonzalez, Tanner VanCuren, Daniel de la Cerda and Max Owens. VanCuren had two assists, Dejan Savic and Reed Vierling.
Then, following a 2-0 loss to Midlothian, they posted back-to-back shutouts over Ennis, 2-0, and Fort Worth Poly, 1-0. VanCuren scored all three goals and Lane Vidauri had an assist.
Kangaroos third at Azle
The Weatherford Kangaroos (2-1-1) scored two second-half goals with the wind at their backs as they defeated host Azle 2-1 for third place in the Azle Tournament. Jesus Hernandez and Preston Spivey scored goals, while Will Cowan and Hernandez assisted.
Spivey's game-winning goal came off a header.
Goalkeeper Alex Morgan posted several key saves.
The Pirates opened with a 2-0 loss to Alvin and followed with a 4-1 win over Diamond Hill-Jarvis. Javier Contreras scored a pair of goals, along with goals from Hernandez and Levi Duval. Hernandez also had an assist, as did Juan Villanueva and Tony Santibanez.
In a 2-2 tie with Magnolia, Santibanez scored and Contreras had the game-tying goal on a penalty kick with 1:30 to play. Hernandez had an assist.
Lady Roos compete at Timber Creek
After struggling in their first two games in the Keller Timber Creek Tournament, the Weatherford Lady Roos (1-2) ended play with a 3-0 blanking of Keller Fossil Ridge. Maggie Bustos, Lally Vasquez and Maria Ramirez each had a goal. Audrey Huggins had a pair of assists and Rachel Knesek added one.
Weatherford opened the tourney with a 3-0 loss to Carrollton Newman Smith and a 6-0 loss to Timber Creek.
