Coyotes beat Howard

The Weatherford College men’s basketball team beat perennial contender Howard College 69-62 Friday at the Betty Jo Crumm Graber Athletic Center.

Four Coyotes ended the game in double-figure scoring, led by Deris Duncan with 18 points and 16 rebounds. Vlatko Granic also finished with a double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds), while Richie Mitchell scored 16 and Julius Jackson added 12 off the bench.

Howard is 6-3 overall and Weatherford is 2-6. The Hawks knocked WC out of last season’s Region 5 Tournament and advanced to the tournament championship game.

The WC women’s team lost to Howard, 57-39.

Both WC teams return home Tuesday night to face New Mexico Junior College. Tip-off times are 5:30 for the women’s game and 7:30 for the men.
