Roos earn first wins of the season at Decatur Invitational tourney

It seems Christmas came early for the Kangaroos varsity basketball team as Weatherford earned its first two wins of the season at the Decatur Invitational over the weekend.

While the team eventually lost the third place game on Saturday to Decatur, 52-45, the Roos claimed their first victory of the 2014 campaign on Thursday by defeating Groesbeck, 51-49. Tony Banks led WHS with 14 points and Marcus Buckley added 13.

Weatherford followed that win up on Friday by winning their second straight game, 29-20 over Odessa. Later that night, however, Brock (ranked No. 1 in the state in 3A) beat the Roos, 73-32, which placed Weatherford in the third place game against Decatur.

The Roos hosted Saginaw Monday night. Results weren’t available at press time.

JV and freshman teams

The JV Roos lost in overtime to Azle Saturday, 41-36. On Thursday, they lost two close games, 55-53 to Decatur and 60-59 against Boswell.

The JV did not play Friday.

The freshman team advanced to the championship game of their bracket but came up short, 47-37 to Denton Guyer, taking second place.

The freshman team won two games Friday, 48-32 over Decatur and 38-20 against Cleburne.

The freshman team won both of their games Thursday, 58-27 over Brock and 48-32 over Decatur.
