Cleburne Yellow Jackets (3-6, 3-3 in District 8-5A) at Aledo Bearcats (8-1, 6-0 in District 8-5A) Preview
▪ When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
▪ Players to watch: Cleburne - QB Trevon Bradley, RB Isaiah Romero. Aledo - RB Donnie Evans, DB Stanton Pearce.
▪ Outlook: The Bearcats have secured a 20th straight playoff appearance and eighth consecutive district championship, also bringing a 60-game district winning streak into the contest. The only question that remains is are they going Division I or II, and this game could have a bearing on that. The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, are in as a Division I entry should they pull off the shocker, but would otherwise need some help. Cleburne started the season 0-5, but has rebounded in a solid way. Bradley has accounted for over 2,200 total yards (1,289 passing, 927 rushing), but is far more of a threat to score running (17 TD compared to three passing with seven intereptions. Much has been said of the Aledo offense, but Pearce and the defense are also shifting into a higher gear as the playoffs approach, as evidenced by his 52-yard interception for a score in last week's 68-0 win at Granbury.
The Yellow Jackets have been up and down offensively all season, scoring as low as a field goal in a loss and as much as 65 in a win. They'll need more of the latter to have a chance as Aledo has scored in 170 straight games, and usually a lot. The Bearcats lead the series 6-0, winning 63-28 last year.
