The Weatherford College rodeo team wrapped up the first half of the season at the Texas Tech University Rodeo in Lubbock Oct. 16-18.
WC’s Cole Wheeler and New Mexico’s Deven Wigemyer continued their hot streak by winning first place in team roping, getting two steers down in 11.5 seconds. It was the third week in a row the duo placed, and they are now second in the Southwest Region standings.
WC’s Aaron Macy and Ranger’s Wesley Thorpe finished three tenths of a second off the team roping lead at 11.8. Casey Tew, another Weatherford teammate, and WC ex Landon Williams (Tarleton) lead the regional team roping standings after finishing fourth overall in Lubbock.
In tie down roping, Kody Mahaffey posted an 8.1 in the finals for third place overall. Coledon Harmon and Trinton Downing took ninth and tenth respectively. Harmon also picked up points in steer wrestling, placing fifth in the first round and seventh overall, throwing two steers in 12.3.
Brooke Sully finished ninth in breakaway roping and Deven Riggins was seventh overall in goat tying.
Five rodeos remain in the season, but the athletes will have to wait 21 weeks to resume. The second half begins March 19-21 at Odessa.
