Ryan Newsome scored two touchdowns Friday and another Saturday as he carried Aledo past Everman 38-17 at Bearcat Stadium in Aledo.
Aledo (5-1, 3-0 8-5A), ranked No. 1 in the Class 5A Associated Press state poll, led 31-17 and was driving inside the Everman 20 on Friday when play was suspended because of approaching storms. It took four plays Saturday for Newsome to finish off Everman (3-3, 1-2) on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Luke Bishop.
Newsome’s 7-yard touchdown run in the second quarter Friday put Aledo ahead for good 21-14. He scored on a 71-yard pass from Bishop that gave Aledo its first lead, 14-7, late in the first quarter. Everman’s Kierre Crossley scored on a 64-yard run that had Aledo facing a rare 7-0 deficit early Friday.
Newsome caught five passes for 141 yards. Crossley finished with 216 yards rushing.
