The Brock tennis team recently completed its team tennis season with a second place finish in the TTCA Team Tennis State Tournament. Brock entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed behind the top-seeded team from Mason and the No. 2 seed from Wall.
Brock opened the tournament with a 16-3 first round win over Forsan which advanced Brock to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Brock defeated East Bernard, 10-6. The match was more closely contested than the score indicates as the girls doubles team of Alex Grimm and Sheyenne Carter fought from behind to win their line 3 match at 9-7. Tyler Davis and Caleb Guyon won a hard fought match at line 1 doubles 9-8 in a tiebreaker. At line 2, girls doubles Alex Rubio and Bailey Nichols trailed for most of the match before coming back to win their final three games after trailing 5-6 and winning by a score of 8-6. The doubles wins gave Brock a 5-2 advantage going into singles play.
In singles, Davis, Tobi Prater, and Hana Folse quickly disposed of their opponents by scores of 8-0 to give Brock a 8-2 lead. East Bernard won four more singles matches before Guyon and Rubio earned wins 9 and 10 to give the Eagles the team win and a berth in the semifinals.
In the semifinals, the Eagles met the Wall Hawks. In doubles action, the Eagles swept the girls side. Prater and Folse won at line 1 doubles 8-3. Rubio and Nichols took line 2 by a score of 8-4 and Grimm and Carter posted an 8-4 score at line 3. Brock was not able to pull out a win in boys doubles and mixed doubles making the score Wall 4, Brock 3 going into singles play.

In singles action, Clayton Boles, Folse, Prater and Nichols quickly disposed of their opponents to give Brock a 7-4 advantage. Wall got wins at lines 3 and 5 in boys singles to pull the score to 7-6 Brock. Davis won at line 1 and Rubio won at line 3 to make the score 9-6 Brock before senior Brandon Neff gave the Eagles their 10th win and the match with a dominating 8-2 win at line 4 singles earning the team a spot in the state final.
In the finals, Brock met the No. 1 seeded team from Mason. The teams were very evenly matched with the outcome in doubt until the end. In girls doubles, the freshman Folse and senior Prater won a hard fought, split set match 4-6, 7-5, 10-1 at line 1 doubles. Neff and Boles won line 2 double in split sets 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 to give Brock their second doubles point.
The Eagles, however, lost two other boys doubles matches in split sets to give Mason a 5-2 lead going into singles play. Folse, Prater and Rubio easily won their matches at lines 1, 2 and 3 singles to tie the score at 5-5. Wins by Davis and Boles and two more wins by Mason knotted the score at 7-7. Mason won the next three matches to get the necessary 10th before Daniel Harper won Brock’s 8th match. Mason won the final match, 11-8, giving Brock the 2nd place finish.
The District 9-2A tennis tournament was held at the courts of Brock High School last week with three Parker County schools participating. In varsity action, the team from Brock won team titles in both boys and girls divisions. Millsap took second in the girls division and Peaster took second in the boys division. Peaster won the boys team championship in the JV division and Brock won the girls JV championship. First and second place varsity winners qualify for the Region II regional tournament at Tarleton State University April 14-17.
Clayton Boles of Brock won first place in boys singles and teammate Caleb Guyon took second place. Reid Adams of Peaster finished in third place.
Brock doubled up in the mixed doubles draw with Tyler Davis and Hana Folse winning first place and Brandon Neff and Bailey Nichols taking second. Nicholas Channer and Taylor Sefcik of Millsap won third place. Tobi Prater and Alex Rubio of Brock won girls doubles and Bayley Bradford and Hannah Myers of Peaster won second place. Alex Grimm and Sheyenne Carter of Brock took third. Fabulosa Palacios of Millsap claimed the girls singles title and Brittany Massey also from Millsap won third place. Chase Ballard and Eric Siewert of Peaster won the boys doubles draw and Dylan Davis and Logan Moon took second place.
In the JV division, Garret Davis of Brock won second in boys singles and the Peaster duo of Cody Cook and Dathan Kemp won boys doubles. Jacob Remirez and Josh Hicks of Millsap won third in boys doubles. Alondra Gamboa of Brock won the girls singles title and Bianca Robles of Millsap won third. The Brock girls doubles team of Jordyn Porter and Jessica Marcus of Brock won first place and Anna Walker and Abygail Lowry of Millsap took second. In mixed doubles Macy Morgan and Garrett Gentry of Peaster took home the second place medal.
