Four baseball players with Weatherford College ties were selected in the Major League Baseball draft this week.
Kevin Kelleher, a former WC pitcher now at the University of New Orleans, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 12th round. The Niceville, Florida native pitched out of the bullpen for the Coyotes in 2014.
Matt Walker, who just completed his freshman season at WC, was selected in the 36th round by the Seattle Mariners. The Aledo High School graduate was the 2015 Pitcher of the Year in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference. He has committed to play at TCU next season.
Two incoming Coyote signees were also selected—Ike Schlabach (Keller Timber Creek High School) went to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 19th round, and Dezmond Chumley (Longview HS) was a 28th round selection of the Tampa Bay Rays.
