Benita Carlton has been hired as the new head girls basketball coach of the Peaster Lady Greyhounds.
Carlton comes to the Lady Greyhounds after leading the Tolar Lady Rattlers to the District 10-2A championship this past season. They overcame an 0-6 start to the season to finish 18-11 overall and 11-1 in district, advancing to the area round of the playoffs.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity. It is a great school district and they have some great expectations in athletics,” said Carlton of Peaster. “I’ve had the opportunity to see the girls work out and have been impressed with what I have seen. I can’t wait to get up there and get going.”
Carlton posted a 45-38 record in three seasons at Tolar, her first job as a head coach. She was previously an assistant at Eastland and Frenship.

Carlton’s husband, B.J., is a principal in the Garner School District.
Carlton replaces Denise Yankie, who was reassigned after two seasons. Yankie led the Lady Greyhounds to a 39-22 record over that time, including a 21-11 record and their first playoff appearance in six seasons in 2014-15.
