After a slow start to the softball season, the Weatherford College Coyotes recovered to make another trip to the postseason. They finished with a 32-16 record.
However, the season ended with back-to-back upset losses in the NJCAA Region V Tournament.
"The season was an overall success, but we did not achieve our goal of returning to the national tournament," Coach Haylee Williams said. "The season started off constantly hovering around the .500 mark. Our pitching and defense kept us in a lot of close games, but then around the middle of the season our bats woke up and we started to hit and score runs like I had originally anticipated.”
He said he thought the slow start could be attributed to starting so many freshman (six, sometimes seven), and they were a little unsure of themselves at first.

“Once they realized how talented we were as a group they began to figure out how to win and thrive under pressure," he said.
Three Coyotes garnered All-Region V and All-North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference honors. They were freshman catcher Liz Konig, freshman infielder Bethany Allen and sophomore outfielder Alex Kovacs.
Allen was third in the conference in doubles (14) and second in stolen bases (30).
Freshman pitcher Maliksa Taylor (14-7) and sophomore Kelbie Crelia (16-8) combined for almost all of the Coyotes' victories. Taylor also had the third-lowest earned-run average in the league (1.43).
As a team, the Coyotes were second in the conference in ERA (2.06).
"We will return a lot of kids from this year which is really exciting," Williams said. "We are bringing in a good group of freshmen and I am excited to see them contribute and grow."
