Led by 243 yards rushing, including three touchdowns, Jase McClellan and the Aledo Bearcats ran their winning streak to 28 games with a 45-30 victory against Grapevine. The contest took place Friday afternoon in Midlothian during the second round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs.
McClellan had touchdowns of 7, 26 and 15 yards. Tre Owens added a 4-yard run as the defending state champions (12-0) built a 28-0 lead late in the first half.
Owens later added a 1-yard TD run.
Grapevine quarterback Alan Bowman completed 38 of 59 passes for 445 yards, but the Bearcats also grabbed three interceptions.
The teams combined for almost 1,000 yards. Aledo had 444, including 388 on the ground, while Grapevine collected 536.
The Mustangs ended the season 9-3 and were eliminated by Aledo for a second straight year. Aledo moves on to face the winner between El Paso Eastlake (9-2) and Abilene Cooper (8-3) both teams playing Friday night.
