The Weatherford Christian School Lady Lions varsity basketball team “worked until the very end” as they tried to defeat the defending TCAF State Champs from St. Paul Prepatory but came up short at the Divison II State Title game.

The hard work and determination of both teams led to a double overtime and resulted in a 61-55 win for St. Paul.

It was neck and neck as both teams battled for the trophy. The WCS Lady Lions led at halftime by only two. Junior defensive powerhouse Judy K Pope, who played with a sprained ankle from the semifinal game, held St. Paul’s leading scorer to only 10 points while juniors Kaitlyn Fell, Keighley Parsons and Hannah Burks worked the offensive end for a combined total of 46 points.

“As hard as it was to lose such an intense game, I could not be more proud of this group of young ladies.” said WCS Head Coach Leslie Chalmers. “They were battling injuries, the flu and asthma but played with everything they had and exemplified the utmost level of sportsmanship the entire game; they have been a true class act all season.”

Parsons and Fell both took home All-Tournament medals. The Lady Lions were honored at halftime of a recent Weatherford College womens game for being TCAF Division II State Runners-Up.

WCS finished the season with a 14-6 record and have all players returning next year.
