The Peaster Lady Greyhounds have advanced to the Class 3A state volleyball championship match with a 25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 27-27 victory against defending state champion and No. 1 ranked Jewett Leon Thursday. The victory ended a 64-match winning streak for Leon, which was making its 27th state tournament appearance and had 10 championships.
Peaster (43-7), which has won 24 straight matches and is ranked No. 3 in the state, will face No. 2 Goliad (43-2) in the championship match Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. Goliad defeated Callisburg 25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18 in the other semifinal.
This is Peaster's second consecutive state tournament. Last season the Lady Greyhounds were 46-2 and reached the semifinals.
