The Brock Lady Eagles and Eagles began their annual quest for a trip to the University Interscholastic League State Basketball Tournament last week. The Lady Eagles got started with a 67-53 victory at Ponder, while the Eagles won 58-42 over Kennedale at North Crowley.
The Brock girls have reached state seven of the past eight seasons. They won state championships from 2009-13 and finished second in 2014 and last season. They entered this season ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 3A behind defending champion Wall (who also defeated them in the 2014 final) in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches rankings.
The Eagles entered the season ranked No. 4. They won state in 2015 and were runners-up in 2012 and 2013.
Other boys teams entering the season ranked by the TABC are Peaster, No. 10 in Class 3A, and Willow Park Trinity was 10th among Class 3A private schools.
The Peaster girls are No. 24.
