Ladycats looking at another district title

In Kathy Goings' first 19 seasons as head volleyball coach at Aledo, the Ladycats have finished first in district 18 times and second once.

And they have secured one of those positions again this season as the postseason approaches. The Ladycats are tied with Saginaw Boswell atop District 6-5A with a couple matches remaining in the regular season.

The two teams split their matches, ironically winning on each other's court. Goings said she wants to play for a third time to determine the outright top seed should they end district play tied.

"We will definitely play it off," Goings said, opting to bypass a coin toss, as some teams will do to decide the top representative from a district.

But then, Goings has reason to be confident. The Ladycats have won nine straight. Entering this week, they had swept each of their district wins except one, which they won in four games over Boswell last week.

"We are playing better as a team than we did the first half of district," Goings said.
