Weatherford citizens can expect to see more police presence out on the roadways during the upcoming Independence Day holiday thanks to grant funding from the Texas Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Program. The additional funding will pay overtime salaries for officers to conduct Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) activities including DWI enforcement as well as speed compliance.

In preparation for the extra enforcement project officers conducted speed and seatbelt compliance surveys on North Main, Fort Worth Highway, Palo Pinto Street and Interstate 20. Survey results determined speed limit compliance for Weatherford drivers averaging about a 33 percent compliance rate.

Additional enforcement is scheduled through July 5th. Law enforcement would like to remind citizens to take extra precautions when on the roadways especially during holiday times when traffic may be heavier. Wear seatbelts, drive at posted speed limits, be mindful of your surroundings and always remember to assign a designated driver if alcohol will be a part of your holiday plans.
