If the recent cold snap hasn't gotten you into the holiday spirit; if that little nip in the air hasn't awakened your inner Kris Kringle, the City of Weatherford may have the cure.
After months of planning and preparations, the City of Weatherford‘s Parks-Recreation and Special Events Department have collaborated and organized the first-ever Holiday in the Park at Heritage Park scheduled for Fri., Dec. 12.
Activities will include snow tubing - complete with a snow play area.
Blake Rexroat, Special Events Coordinator for the city, said no snow is forecast for Parker County that day, but a company specializing in the powdery white stuff can guarantee it.

Emergency Ice, from Dallas, will create the cold, wintry scene in 15 minutes, just before gates open.
Other activities will include carriage rides, bounce houses and special appearances by Santa Claus himself - complete with live reindeer. Characters from the movie Frozen will also be on hand as will food trucks and holiday music for the public to enjoy.
“A lot of people know Heritage Park as the the place where First Monday Trade Days take place,” Rexroat said. “But we also want people to know Heritage Park for much more, and look at this event as just one of many that will take place at this location.”
He said it was ironic how perfectly the event fit the “holiday” calendar. That Sat., Nov. 29, will mark the second annual Parker County Courthouse Christmas Lighting ceremonies, followed by Christmas on the Square on Sat., Dec. 6, and then Holiday in the Park on Sat. Dec. 12.
“It really fell into place and didn't conflict with anything,” Rexroat said. “So it worked out for the best and now we have three weeks of activities leading up to Christmas - that’s great.”
The event will also be two-fold, acting as the soft opening for the new Food Park the city will be putting finishing touches prior to the event. It’s estimated that between eight to 10 food trucks will be on hand for the festivities.
Outside of the food truck, no other vendors will be present.
“This really isn't ‘festival like,’” Rexroat added. “It’s just a fun atmosphere where people aren't pressured to buy anything from vendors. It’s free and fun for the community.”
The inaugural event will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., located at 200 Santa Fe Drive.
“Holiday in the Park is a great family event that will introduce Heritage Park as a great site for future special events,” said Shannon Goodman, Director of Parks, Recreation and Special Events. “This event will take place during evening hours and will provide a special feel for the holiday season.”
