It won’t be long before the smell of suntan lotion will waft into the air with its familiar aroma. The sounds of laughter will echo with children at play, splashing in water to cool off from the hot summer sun. All of this and more can be expected as the folks at Splash Kingdom Wild West Water Park prepare to kick off the 2014 season.
In just weeks, the park will open with a “Sneak Peek” on May 17 for all season ticket holders.
“We will open to the general public at our ‘grand-opening 2.0 event’ on May 24-26 and then May 31 – Labor Day,” Rebecca Haug, Sales and Marketing Director said.
Last year, the park opened later than expected due to the most unsuspecting reason - early to late summer rain.
Nevertheless, pre-ticket sales this year have been booming.
“We have been doing quite well with season pass sales for this upcoming season,” Haug added. “We are extremely excited that people are so motivated to experience the park this summer. All of our parks have had tremendous support from surrounding communities and this one is no different.”
This year the park has three new slides to try out.
The first is a four lane “mat racer” with a 40-foot drop that is ridden face first on a 2-inch thick foam mat; the second is a enclosed tube slide and the other a open tube slide both boasting a 50-foot drop.
"We tested the slides last week,” said Patrick Lawler, City Administrator for the City of Hudson Oaks. “As one of the first down the new slides, I can tell you they are a thrill."
All the new slides finish in run outs at the base that have a small amount of water.
“We are also adding mats at the base of the kids slides and some special new elements to the wave pool and lazy river,” Haug added.
The water park will again offer patrons the opportunity to enjoy the facility’s wave pool that contains more than 175,000 gallons of water. On its 10-acre tract, the park includes a 700-foot lazy river, eight slides, children’s activity pool, wading pool, splash pads, concession stands, offices and more.
"Johnny Blevins and his team added some great water slides and really put the finishing touches on the park," Lawler said.
Haug said last year was great and that they plan to continue the family water-park feel through this upcoming season.
“This summer will be an exciting one for Splash Kingdom Wild West,” said Johnny Blevins, President and CEO of Splash Kingdom. “We have been working diligently over the off season to present a beautiful water-park and I think we have accomplished just that. This will be a fantastic summer and we are all excited to open up.”
