Greg Welch Summer Classic just weeks away

Sometimes even the best laid plans are subject to change, especially when Mother Nature is involved. Such was the case when Weatherford Christian School made plans for the Greg Welch Summer Classic. After days of needed and beneficial rains, organizers of the event were forced to postpone the event until a later date. The wait is over.

For the second consecutive year Weatherford Christian School will be hosting its Annual Greg Welch Summer Classic Concert and Car Show on Sat., Sept. 12 at its secondary campus, located at 2300 Ranger Hwy.

The event, whose lead sponsor is Trinity Country Real Estate, helps generate funds to further assist with the construction “within” the gym that stands in remembrance of Greg who lost his battle to cancer in 2004. The gym stands also as a tribute to Welch’s daughter Whitney, along with her 3 friends, Staci Lee, Mandi McWhorter, and Lacey Osina who were tragically killed by a drunk driver less than 2 miles from the building in 1998.

“Last year’s event raised more than $161,000 making it one of Parker Counties’ top fundraisers but more importantly raising awareness about these 5 incredible individuals and all they stood for while on this earth,” Leslie Chalmers, Director of Development said.

The evening will feature shopping from vendors, complete with a children’s area filled with fun activities, the Home Depot building station, bounce houses, face painting and much more.

A classic car exhibit will be on display for car enthusiast, and for country music fans - music from the talented Lani Stacy, Charla Corn and headliner Jason Cassidy.

“WCS has also been blessed again this year with the donation of an all original 1953 Chevy 2 Door Hard Top Bel Air that will be raffled off to one lucky winner the night of the concert,” Chalmers added. Tickets are $50 each and are now available through WCS students and at each campus office.
