The meeting was short.
In a little more than three minutes the Weatherford City Council, in a special meeting, canvassed the votes from the May 9 General Election.
The council followed up by issuing a resolution officially ordering the runoff election for Place 3 between Reed Wainwright and Dale Fleeger.
“In 2010, voters amended the city’s charter to change from two-year council terms to three-year terms,” said city secretary Malinda Nowell. “As a result, Article 11, section 11 of the Texas Constitution requires the City of Weatherford to elect all of its candidates by majority instead of plurality.”

Majority requires that one candidate must receive at least 50 percent of the votes in order to take the office.
This will be the first runoff election for a council position the city has ever had. The estimated cost to taxpayers is $6,391.60.
Election Day will be on June 13 with early voting weekdays, June 1-9.
Fleeger drew the first position on the ballot.
