Parker County Precinct 3 Commissioner Larry Walden had the Midas touch with a recent grant application to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Walden was awarded $177,000 in Emission Reduction Incentive Grants from the TCEQ for this current grant cycle.
"We were able to apply for the ERIG grants based on the reduction of emissions from certain heavy trucks and machines," Walden said. "This money will be used to replace two mid-1980s military surplus with two 2015 model trucks. It is a huge benefit to our operations, at no additional costs to our taxpayers."
Emissions from the new trucks are approximately 54 times less than the emissions from the 1980s military surplus trucks.

Walden called it a “win-win.”
"This opportunity worked out well and is something we will continue to strive for," he said. "Removing high emission vehicles from our roadways helps our region’s air quality. To be able to replace them with two new cleaner burning trucks at no additional cost to the taxpayer is a great deal. We appreciate the grant opportunity provided to us by the TCEQ."
