Retired military commander to speak at gala

Weatherford Christian School is quickly approaching one of its largest fundraisers of the year that helps keep Christian education affordable for families of Parker County. Last year’s gala raised over $134,000 for the non-denominational Christian school that has experienced over a 40-percent growth increase the last two years.

The 2015 Lions’ Gala will take place on Sat., March 21, at North Side Baptist Church beginning at 6:30 p.m. and will be emceed by James Plowman. The “fun-filled eveningencompasses an amazing array of unique items” featured in silent, super silent and live auctions.

Guests will also enjoy a “delicious meal” catered by Reata Restaurant with live entertainment from both Kevin Townson and the Childbloom Guitar Program, as well as recording artist Lani Staci.

Weatherford Christian School is honored to feature Lt. Gen. (Ret) William G. “Jerry” Boykin as its keynote speaker for this year’s event. Boykin was one of the original members of the U.S. Army’s Delta Force and was privileged to ultimately command the elite warriors in combat operations. He later commanded all the Army’s Green Berets as well as the Special Warfare Center and School.

In his 36 years in the Army, Boykin served a tour with the CIA, participated in clandestine operations around the world and served his last four years in the Army as the Deputy under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. Today, he is an ordained minister with a “passion for spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and encouraging Christians to become Warriors in God’s Kingdom.” He also serves as the current Executive Vice President of the Washington, D.C.-based Family Research Council and occupies the Wheat Chair for Leadership Studies at Hampden Sydney College in Virginia.
