Competing against college students, AHS senior Mikayla Thompson won fourth-place with her heifer in Senior Showmanship at the State Fair of Texas. She also won Second Place as the Overall Senior Individual for the Texas Junior Red Angus Association State Futurity. Mikayla took First Place in Senior Photography with a photo she took of her sister Megan as she was teaching a younger child how to show. She was also First Place in Senior Public Speaking with a speech on the importance of showing livestock.
Mikayla moved into a senior age division this year. She was the youngest in the division, competing against freshmen, sophomores and juniors in college. She spent many hours studying and preparing for all five competitions.
Mikayla also was elected to the Texas Junior Red Angus Board of Directors. She will represent the state organization as the 2016-2017 Texas Junior Red Angus board treasurer. She will also be a representative at all the major shows in 2017, as well as the National Junior Red Angus Show.
