Five dishes that are better than a tie this Father’s Day

This weekend is a special day - Father’s Day. Have you been thinking of that special gift? Well, if you’re willing to, “step out of the box” I have a suggestion for you that I’m certain dad will really love. Try one of these delicious recipes, bet he’ll like it more than another tie.

Lasagna

▪ 1 lb. Pork Sausage (hot)

▪ 1 lb. Ground Beef

▪ 2 cans Tomato Paste

▪ 2 cups Tomatoes (stewed)

▪ 1/8 tsp. Garlic Powder

▪ 1 tsp. Basil

▪ 2 1/2 tsp. Salt (divided)

▪ 3 tbsp. Parsley (divided)

▪ 12 oz. Cottage Cheese

▪ 2 eggs

▪ 1/2 tsp. Pepper

▪ 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese (grated)

▪ 1 lb. Mozzarella Cheese (shredded)

▪ Double Box Lasagne Noodles (uncooked)

1. Brown sausage and beef.

2. Add tomato paste, stewed tomatoes, garlic, basil, 1/2 tsp salt and 1 tbsp. parsley. Simmer.

3. Mix cottage cheese, eggs, 2 tsp salt, 2 tbsp parsley, pepper, and Parmesan cheese.

4. Layer noodles, meat mixture, cottage cheese mixture and end with mozzarella cheese.

5. Bake at 350 degrees until cheese melts.

Steak-Potato Casserole

▪ 3 to 4 sliced potatoes, peeled or unpeeled

▪ 3 to 4 portions boneless thin-cut steak

▪ 1 medium sliced onion

▪ Oregano, salt and pepper

▪ Butter

▪ 14.5-oz. can tomatoes

1. In a 9 x 13-inch pan, place sliced potatoes. Cover with steak.

2. Place thinly sliced onion over meat.

3. Sprinkle oregano, salt and pepper over meat. Place several thin dabs of butter in various places.

4. Spread tomatoes over top.

5. Cover pan tightly. Bake at 375 degrees for 2 hours.

Spicy Barbecued Brisket

▪ 1 (5-lb.) brisket

▪ 1 tsp. black pepper

▪ 1 T. garlic powder

▪ 2 c. Pace picante sauce

▪ 1/2 c. packed brown sugar

▪ 1/2 c. Worcestershire sauce

1. Season beef with pepper and garlic powder and place in a 3-quart baking dish.

2. Combine picante sauce and brown sugar in a small bowl and mix well.

3. Cover with heavy foil and refrigerate overnight.

4. Bake, covered, at 300 degrees for 4 1/2 hours, or until beef is fork-tender. Slice or shred beef. Serve on hamburger buns.

Chili Stuffed Peppers

▪ 6 medium green bell peppers

▪ 1 lb. ground beef

▪ 1/2 c. chopped onion

▪ 1 (15 oz.) can Ranch-style beans

▪ 1 can Ro-Tel tomatoes

▪ 1 tsp. chili powder

▪ 1/2 tsp. salt

▪ 1/4 tsp. pepper

▪ 3/4 c. cheese

1. Cut tops off peppers and remove seeds.

2. Place in large pot; cover with water and bring to a boil. Boil 3 minutes until crisp-tender. Drain and set aside.

3. Brown beef with onion and drain. Add beans, tomatoes, chili powder, salt and pepper.

4. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 5 minutes. Spoon into peppers.

5. Cook on ungreased baking dish at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese.

Dr. Pepper Cake

Cake:

▪ 2 cups Flour

▪ 2 cups Sugar

▪ 2 sticks Butter

▪ 1 cup Dr. Pepper

▪ 3 tbsp. Cocoa

▪ 1/2 cup Buttermilk

▪ 2 Eggs (beaten)

▪ 1 tsp. Baking Soda

▪ 1 tsp. Vanilla

▪ 2 cups Miniature Marshmallows

1. Combine flour and sugar mixing well.

2. Heat butter, Dr. Pepper, cocoa and bring to a boil. Pour over flour and sugar.

3. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla. Mix well.

4. Add marshmallows and pour into a 9 x 13 greased cake pan.

5. Bake for 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees. The marshmallows will rise to the top during baking.

Frosting:

▪ 1 stick Butter

▪ 6 tbsp. Dr. Pepper

▪ 1 box Powdered Sugar

▪ 1 tsp. Vanilla

▪ 3 tbsp. Cocoa

▪ 1 cup Pecans (toasted)

1. Cream butter.

2. Add remaining ingredients and beat well.

3. Pour over cake while still warm and still in pan. Serve in pan.
