On December 2, songs of the Christmas season filled Central Christian Church’s Cuppett Hall, as PCRTA members were treated to a special program by middle schoolers from Trinity Christian Academy in Williow Park. Directed by Stephen Vnasdale, many selections featured various students. Following the program, the choir led the audience in singing beloved seasonal favorites such as Frosty the Snowman and Jingle Bells. PCRTA congratulates Trinity Christian Academy on such an outstanding group of young students.
Members also enjoyed a Christmas buffet, featuring their own favorite Christmas dishes. As usual, the Food Service Committee, chaired by Sara Quy, assisted members. These members work hard at every meeting to be sure that members have everything they need to enjoy the meal.
Special guest this month was Jack Knowles, President of District XI TRTA, who brought greetings to the group from the district, especially thanking everyone for the excellent support of the Texas Retired Teacher Foundation in the amount of $1,342.05. From Richland Hills, Knowles serves with one of PCRTA’s own members Don Plumlee who serves as Treasurer of District XI.
Always inspiring, President Louretta Evans said, "Christmas is the time to let your heart do the thinking."

Members certainly opened their hearts to contribute funds to the state book project. Close to $750 has been collected to purchase books for WISD Community Education to distribute for their summer reading program. PCRTA is well on the way to funding 600 books this year for the program.
Concerns about the lack of proper funding for TRS Care continue. President Evans encouraged everyone to contact legislative officials to ask them to "go to bat" for retirees on this issue. Should the shortfall not be addressed adequately, retirees who use TRS Care fear seeing their insurance premiums double in September of 2015.
Members were also encouraged to drop off toys at the Weatherford Democrat for their drive on behalf of Toys for Tots.
The next meeting of PCRTA was held Tuesday at Central Christian Church, Cuppett Hall. Lunch began at 11:30 and a public service program and business meeting followed. Members and guests enjoyed a catered lunch of lasagna for $8 from Pizza Place, owned by PCRTA member Roger Grizzard.
