Pies are the perfect ending to a Thanksgiving feast

What’s Thanksgiving without dessert? If you really want to “wow the crowd” try one of these delicious pie recipes. Also, a little tip. If your husband loves pie as much as mine does, make an extra one just for him. They are easy to make and it will keep him out of the kitchen. Happy Thanksgiving.

Southern Pecan Pie

▪ 4 large eggs

▪ 1 1/4 c. Karo

▪ 3/4 c. sugar

▪ 1 tsp. vanilla

▪ 1/2 to 1 cup pecans, chopped

▪ 1 T. flour

1. Beat eggs just until frothy.

2. Add Karo, sugar, vanilla, flour and pecans to eggs.

3. Pour into an unbaked 9-inch pie crust and bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.

4. Change oven temperature to 300 degrees and bake for 60 to 70 minutes, or until done.

5. Let cool before cutting.

6. Placing a foil ring around pie crust edge will prevent overcoming.

Pumpkin Pie

▪ 1 1/2 c. pumpkin

▪ 1 c. evaporated milk

▪ 1 c. sugar

▪ 1/4 tsp. salt

▪ 1/4 tsp. nutmeg

▪ 1/4 tsp. cinnamon

▪ 2 eggs, beaten

▪ 1 T. butter

1. Combine all ingredients.

2. Mix and pour into uncooked pie shell.

3. Bake at 425 degrees for 45 minutes.

Chocolate Pecan Pie

▪ 1 c. sugar

▪ 1/2 c. flour

▪ 1 stick margarine, room temperature

▪ 2 eggs

▪ 1 tsp. vanilla

▪ 1 c. pecans, chopped

▪ 3/4 c. chocolate chips

▪ 1 unbaked pie shell

1. Mix ingredients as listed.

2. Pour into pie shell.

3. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes.

Apple Cranberry Pie

▪ 2 pie crusts

▪ 4 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled & thinly sliced

▪ 1 c. cranberries, fresh or frozen

▪ 1 c. raisins, golden are best (optional)

▪ 1/2 c. chopped walnuts or pecans

▪ 1 c. sugar

▪ 2/3 c. brown sugar

▪ 4 Tbsp. flour

▪ 1 tsp. cinnamon

▪ 1/4 tsp. nutmeg

1. Mix ingredients and pour into pie crust.

2. Dot with 3 Tbsp. butter.

3. Put on top crust. Trim and seal edges, cut several vents.

4. Can brush with egg whites and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or plain sugar.

5. Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes.
