The Vandagriff Elementary Student Council has been selling wristbands labeled “TEAM NICK AND ZEB/ NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE” to raise money for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and their sponsored Light the Night Event. This organization raises funds for Blood Cancers (Leukemia and Lymphoma). Nick Scott (AMS seventh-grader) and Zeb Montgomery (AMS eighth-grader) are former Vandagriff students, and are both currently in treatment for Leukemia. Nick is being treated for ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) and Zeb is being treated for AML (acute myeloid leukemia).
“The link below explains the reason we are so passionate about donating to this organization,” a release stated. “It came about as a result of a conversation with Nick in which he expressed appreciation for the money that had been raised for his family, but also wanted to know what was being done to fight the disease.”
Vandagriff is also in its second year of participating in Pennies for Patients. To date, Vandagriff has raised more than $4,000.
“I am very proud of the students at Vandagriff Elementary and their passion and willingness to give from their hearts,” Vandagriff Nurse Debbie Henrietta said. “They know we are doing this not only for two former Vandagriff students, but also for the brothers, sisters, mothers, father, and grandparents that many of our students have lost or are currently fighting for their lives.”
