Quilters Guild makes comfy delivery

January 14, 2014 01:33 PM

Before Christmas, Quilter’s Guild of Parker County “Comfort” co-chairs Joyce Coney and Joanna Swonger along with members Jeanie Garvin and Evelyn Mathis delivered “lap throws” to various local nursing homes for residents.

Coney explained that these small quilts are intended to be used by wheelchair bound residents to cover their legs while in their chairs, yet not be tangled in the wheels

Each year the Comfort Quilt program of the Guild makes and distributes quilts to local nursing homes, various children’s organizations and Habitat homes. In 2013, the Guild also sent quilts to displaced residents of the West Nursing Home after the fertilizer plant explosion.

The Quilter’s Guild of Parker is a non-profit organization with a mission of preserving and promoting the art of quilting. The Guild meets on the third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Grace First Presbyterian Church, 606 Mockingbird Lane.
