In 2014, Coder Elementary, unleashed a different kind of service project. Word in the community was that the Aledo Clothes Closet was in need of new, unopened packages of underwear to benefit children and their families in Aledo ISD. Coder Cats stepped in and held its first “UNDIE 500.” That year, the children were challenged to bring in at least 500 pairs of new undies. The kids were so excited about helping others that they brought in more than 1,000 pairs of undies. The “UNDIE 500” was such a huge success that in 2015, they decided to hold the Second Annual Undie 500 in which students were challenged to bring in at least 1,100 pairs. Once again, the Coder Cats answered the call and surpassed that goal by bringing in a little over 1,200 pairs of undies.
This year, a group of fantastic parents had a vision for the Third Annual UNDIE 500 by promising the students a special guest if they could donate at least 1,300 pairs of undies. Based on the book series, Captain Underpants, the boys and girls were asked to bring in undies and deposit them into the “Turbo Toilet 2000.” The children had such great fun bringing new undies and knowing that they were helping others in need. Our Coder Cats came to the rescue and met the challenge by bringing in 1,340 of NEW UNDIES! Students were treated to the special visitor. Coder dad, Josh Harbuck, stopped by to greet the kids and congratulated them for meeting the goal. All undies have been safely delivered to the Aledo Clothes Closet. Thank you, Coder Cats, for having kind and compassionate hearts.
