Weight management course offered

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will be conducting a Spring Step Up Scale Down, a 12-week weight management program in to help with efforts to lose weight. The class will begin on March 5 and will meet each Monday through May 21. The session begin at 5:15 p.m. and will conclude by 6 p.m. The classes will be at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center, located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.

Fall prevention for older adults

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension will conduct “A Matter of Balance” Fall Prevention Series. The classes will take place Mondays and Wednesdays, March 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, and 28. The classes are free of charge will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center in Weatherford, located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.

Native grasses — pretty and practical

Native grasses can do double-duty in the landscape, blending the beautiful with the practical once you get to know them. A specialist in ornamental native grasses, John Snowden, will be the speaker at the Feb. 8 meeting in Weatherford of the Cross Timbers Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas.

Tools for Parenting class offered by extension service

Texas AgriLife Extension of Parker County will conduct Tools for Parenting classes Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 6 and 7. The classes will be from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and lunch will be provided. The classes will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.

Millsap resident celebrates 100 years

MILLSAP, TX – Dozens of family members, friends and neighbors filled the festooned Millsap Community Center Saturday, Nov. 25th, to celebrate the 100th birthday of Adina Jobe. Her children, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren attended. A vivacious Jobe greeted every one of them, and still found time to taste the abundant refreshments.

Grants offered for pollinator gardens

Grants of up to $3,000 are available for groups that want to create pollinator gardens in Texas to attract and sustain monarch butterflies and other valuable pollinator species. Preference is being given to projects in strategic counties along the monarchs’ fall and spring migration flight paths, including Parker, Palo Pinto, Johnson and Tarrant counties.
