The library at Weatherford College will soon be renamed in honor of Jim Wright.
The Weatherford College Board of Trustees unanimously approved the naming of the building as the Speaker Jim Wright Library.
Long before he became Speaker of the House, Wright attended what was then Weatherford Junior College and served as the city’s mayor.
“You might recall last year the board discussed naming something on our Weatherford campus after Jim Wright,” said Brent Baker, vice president of Institutional Advancement at Weather College. “We discussed it in a couple of board meetings but didn’t find anything we felt was appropriate at the time.”

Baker said after Wright’s death last month at age 92, the conversation started up again.
“It was during a recent meeting the idea came up of naming the college library after Speaker Wright,” Baker said. “The central location of the library, the historic artifacts inside the building and other factors seem to make the library an ideal building to carry the Jim Wright name.”
Baker said a formal reception and naming ceremony after the Wright will be forthcoming.
Wright is buried at City Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford.
