For the second time this school year, a noose was found hanging at a Weatherford school district campus.
School officials said a corded cotton drawstring fashioned in a noose was found hanging from a stall in a restroom at Tison Middle School on Tuesday morning.
In January, a photo surfaced of a noose tied to a stairwell at Weatherford High School. The noose had been found in December and school officials said the student was found and disciplined.
On Tuesday evening, school officials said in a statement the students who were involved in hanging the noose at Tison Middle School were identified and would be disciplined according to the Weatherford ISD student code of conduct.
“This offensive symbol does not represent what we expect of our students in Weatherford ISD and we will not tolerate this behavior,” the district said a statement. “We do not take this matter lightly.”
According to data reported by the Texas Tribune, about 2.3 percent of students at Tison Middle School are black. In the school district, 2.5 percent of students are black.
