Neighbors helped free two people from their burning home Saturday afternoon in Grapevine.

Fire Chief Darrell Brown said a woman and a boy were inside a duplex in the 300 block of Starnes Street near downtown when the fire became noticeable. A neighbor saw the smoke at about 1:15 p.m. and called 911, while another neighbor broke through a screen door and helped the two victims outside.

The victims, believed to be grandmother and grandson, had been burned and were transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Brown said. Their conditions were not known.

Fire investigators were still trying to determine the fire’s cause Saturday afternoon.

Brown said firefighters could see the smoke from the fire station a few blocks away. When they arrived, flames and smoke were rolling out from under the front porch.
