A man walked into the Watauga City Hall lobby Thursday afternoon, sat down in a chair and fatally shot himself, a city spokesman said.
The man, who had not been identified by late Thursday, entered the lobby at 3:45 p.m. from the west entrance, went to a chair and “committed suicide with a gunshot,” spokesman Bradley Fraley said in a phone interview.
Fraley did not know if the man said anything to people in the lobby.
No one else was injured. The building was immediately closed, and the city is providing counseling to the witnesses, he said.

Courtrooms have metal detectors but not the main lobby, Fraley said. Court was in session, he said.
The building is in the 7000 block of Whitley Road, east of U.S. 377 N.
No other weapons were found on the man or in his vehicle, Watauga police spokesman Sgt. Jason Babcock said. The man does not work at the building, he said.
The Tarrant County medical examiner will release the man’s name once family is notified.
