The only losers at this event were the ones who didn’t attend.
On March 29, Southlake Newcomers Club members reintroduced a past fundraiser: Visions of Vegas — Playing for Others. Lady Luck was on their side because the “payoff” was sheer fun.
There was plenty of action with blackjack and craps and slot machines for anyone ready to pull the one-armed bandits.
A silent and live auction had attendees “doubling down” on their bids as they fought to win great items. If you want a successful live auction, get Dan Holmes as your auctioneer. I do believe that man has an inside track to people’s bank balances. He seems to always know just how to get the very last dime out of the room.
A shout out must go to the Dallas/Fort Worth Marriott Solana food and beverage department. This was not your typical casino buffet. Their garlic chicken scalloppini was so fragrant that attendees easily followed their noses from the entrance of the hotel to the ballroom.
The stable is full
Speaking of gambling, the Arts Council Northeast has already won its race and the event hasn’t taken place.
Slated for May 4, the 2014 Triple Crown Affair at Lone Star Park fundraiser is sold out. But those unable to attend can still bid on the auction items. Lee Koch, Arts Council Northeast president, said to call her at 817-283-3406 and make arrangements to either bid by phone on the day of the event or give her a high bid on an item.
Items up for bid include a 17-inch strand of pale pink akoya pearls, a 25-inch strand of white rose akoya pearls, a private wine paired dinner for eight at Timarron Country Club, a suite for 25 at Lone Star Park for a day at the races including food, dinner for 25 at Ernie’s Seafood Restaurant (with sports figures joining the fun), a Bravo! catered light gourmet dinner for 20 at the winning bidder’s home, a four-course gourmet dinner for 10 with wine pairings at The Classic Café, five days and four nights in a luxury condo in Destin, Fla., a wine paired dinner for 10 at Olenjack’s Grille and an Emmy trip package including airfare on American Airlines with tickets for two to the Emmy Awards and a two-night stay at Omni Hotel (yep, you will get to walk the red carpet and everything).
How amazing would it be to rub shoulders with your favorite television star? Give Lee a call.
