Southlake fire station opens up for story time, tour
There was an “air of excitement” at Southlake Fire Station 1 on July 24, as hundreds of kids attended a special story time.
Last year, the Southlake Public Library held one of its children’s story times at the fire station, and after a big turnout and positive feedback, the library planned another event this year.
Youth Services Librarian Stacy Wells said it fit in perfectly with the library’s summer theme of “Every hero has a story.”
“We wanted to include our local heroes,” Wells said.
Wells guessed between 250-300 people were at the fire station, where Firefighter Rick Davis read “Super Hair-o and the Barber of Doom,” dressed as the main character.
After the story and some songs, the families got to look around the fire station, going inside fire trucks and an ambulance, meeting the police department’s K-9 officer, Duco, and pushing the siren button on the police motorcycle.
