18-wheeler overturns, crashes in Grapevine, killing driver

The unidentified driver of an 18-wheeler that overturned and crashed on the ramp from Highway 121 to Interstate 635 early Tuesday morning died, police say.

The accident closed the freeway for hours as authorities investigated and worked to clear the wreck.

Grapevine police reported the accident shortly after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. The freeway was closed until shortly after 7 a.m.

The driver won't be identified until his next of kin has been notified. He appeared to be in his 20s or 30s, police said.

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle, police said. Crews had to stabilize the truck before he could be extracted, and he was pronounced dead and removed from the truck shortly after 3 a.m.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, another 18-wheeler overturned on Highway 121, this one near Freeport Parkway, police said. Minor injuries were reported.
