Bedford PD: Suspect wounded in hand after gunfire exchange with police

Bedford police officers wounded a suspect Friday after an exchange of gunfire.

No police officers were injured, according to a news release from Bedford police.

Police officers were responding to a shots fired call shortly before 11 p.m. in the 3800 block of Burr Oak Court, a news release said.

While they were conducting a search of the area, officers found an armed individual beneath a car who was pointing a gun at the officers, the release said.

The suspect and the officers exchanged gunfire and the suspect was wounded in the hand, according to the release. The suspect was taken into custody and then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to police.

Police have not identified the suspect or the officers involved in this ongoing investigation that is being conducted by the Texas Rangers.
