A man’s attempt to rob a convenience store in Bedford went up in flames Thursday morning.

The man walked into a convenience store in the 1500 block of East Pipeline Road about 6:30 a.m., demanded money and then “sprayed flammable liquid on the store clerk,” Bedford police said.

He then ignited the liquid and possibly burned himself, police said, before leaving in an unknown vehicle, possibly a dark-color Chrysler PT Cruiser. The clerk was not injured.

A surveillance still shot shows the suspect entering the store carrying a small gasoline can. The store does not have gas pumps.

The man is described as 25 to 30 years old, thin, and may have burnt clothes and/or burn injuries to his hands, arms and/or upper chest. Police requested that anyone with information call investigators at 817-952-2411.
