Mansfield comes up short against Frisco

The Mansfield varsity hockey team lost to Frisco on Thursday night by a score of 5-1 at the Euless Green Arena to move to 5-11 on the season.

The varsity team was out shot 42-20 in the game by Frisco.

Things got off to a promising start early on for Mansfield.

After trailing 1-0 just past the nine minute mark of the first period, Mansfield tied it up 1-1 on a goal from from Matthew Murphy with just 29 seconds to play in the first to tie it up.

Kyle Scott earned the assist on the Murphy goal, and the game was tied heading into the second period.

Frisco never looked back from there, however, and went on to score four unanswered goals to pick up the victory.

Mansfield had 22 penalty minutes to Frisco's six as well.

The varsity team will square off with Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage in its next game at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Euless Green Arena.

Mansfield JV Silver team sees streak come to an end

The Mansfield Junior Varsity Silver hockey team saw its six game win streak come to an end on Sunday night as it lost to Plano West 6-2 at the Plano World Arena.

After trailing 4-0 at the end of the first period, Mansfield came roaring back in the second with two unanswered goals from James DeMarque to get the JV Silver team back into the game.

Christopher Pressley assisted on DeMarque's first goal and the second goal was unassisted.

Plano West went on to score two more goals to get the win.

There was only one minor penalty between the teams in the game, which belonged to Mansfield.

Mansfield will play Richardson/Rockwall next at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22 at the Euless Green Arena.

Mansfield, Timberview have multiple players sign letters of intent

National Signing Day proved to be productive for both Mansfield and Timberview High Schools, as both had multiple athletes sign their letters of intent.
