MISD has eight players named to all-state squad
The Mansfield school district saw eight of its football players selected as honorable mentions to the Texas 5A All-State squad this past week.
Timberview's Nick Gerhard was selected on the offensive line, along with Summit teammates Gerred Johnson and Michael Shogbonyo.
Timberview's Myron Gailliard earned the nod at receivers/ends, and teammate Devin Williams was selected as an honorable mention quarterback.
On the defensive side of he ball, Legacy's Taaj Bakari was selected honorable mention on the line, as was Timberview's Dacion Harris.
Timberview linebacker Kendall Mays also made the cut for the all-state team as an honorable mention.
Mansfield Varsity loses final game before the break
The Mansfield varsity hockey team lost its final game before the holiday break on Thursday, moving to 3-7 on the season with a 4-0 defeat to Jesuit at the Euless Star Center Green Arena.
Mansfield was out shot in the game by a total of 31-15 and had nine penalty minutes to Jesuit's four.
The varsity squad wrapped up the first part of the season in 10th place in the 15-team team Varsity division and suffered one overtime loss.
With eight goals and three assists, James Sullivan is the leading scorer, averaging 1.10 points per game, while teammate James Boisvert is right on his heels at 1.09 points per game (five goals, seven assists).
Mansfield is on a two-game losing streak heading into the second part of the season, which starts at 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 4 at the Farmers Branch Miller Arena.
Mansfield girls win close one with Midlothian
The Mansfield girls basketball team won a hard-fought victory over Midlothian last Tuesday, winning 41-36 to pull its district record to 1-1 overall on the season.
Ki'Asha Harris led the team in scoring with 14 points, while teammate Whitney Yates scored nine points overall.
Danielle Johnson, Mykel Jones, Maryam Adeniyi Lyndsey Wurm, Kiana Harris, and Halei Wortham all combined for 18 points in the game.
Mansfield will begin competing in the district's home tournament, the Spring Creek BBQ Classic, on Dec. 29 at Mansfield.
