Mansfield hockey team rallies late, beats McKinney
The Mansfield Varsity Silver hockey team rebounded from a loss last week to defeat McKinney on Thursday night at the McKinney Star Center South Arena.
The Varsity Silver team got off to a good start in the game, taking a 2-0 lead halfway through the second period of the contest.
James Sullivan scored with 1:30 to play in the first period for Mansfield to make it 1-0 on an assist from Kyle Scott, and the Silver team made it 2-0 on a goal from Micah Amox at the 11:47 mark of the second period.
Karsten Portell earned the assist on the Amox goal.
McKinney scored three unanswered goals to lead the game by a score of 3-2 heading into the third period.
Sullivan tied it up at the 10-minute mark of the third period on an unassisted goal, and Portell put Mansfield ahead for good with just under six and a half minutes to play.
Cole Seevers stopped six shots on goal for Mansfield in the third period.
The Varsity Silver team will play Highland Park at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 at the Farmers Branch Star Center Miller Arena.
Lake Ridge will try to pick up where it left off
The Lake Ridge boys basketball team is hoping to pick up where it left off last season following a 21-9 record and trip to the postseason.
Lake Ridge went 12-4 in district competition and lost in the bi-district round to Dallas Kimbell.
The Eagles return first team all-district selection Michael Adewunmi to help lead the way for Lake Ridge this season.
Summit looks for repeat of last season
The Summit boys basketball team is looking to repeat upon the kind of success it enjoyed last season when it went 21-7 for the year and made the playoffs.
The Jaguars went 12-4 in district competition last season and advanced to the regional semifinals before losing to Dallas Wilson.
Summit defeated Dallas Seagoville 64-51 in the bi-district round, Tyler High School by a score of 77-60 in the area round and Dallas Kimball by a score of 80-79 in the regional quarterfinals.
The Jaguars will look to all-district selection Curtis Hollis to help the lead the way this season.
