Having been to the last five tennis tourneys at the Walnut Creek Country Club, I'm always amazed at how Ernie and his crew pull it off. It is a fantastic event from start to finish. Each year I get to meet tennis players from around the world. This year was exceptional, thanks in part to the Klotz family, Lisa and Philip, who have hosted young tennis players in their home for a week or so each year for at least the past five years.
This year they had Nick and Will, two outstanding young gentlemen who made this old tennis player feel like one of them. They were very socialable, answering any question I had, and further wondering about me, a thing of the past with some youth today. I watched them both play for the duration until unfortunately they were eliminated. Even then, the Klotz family took them out for dinner on two nights, and my wife and I met them one evening at a local restaurant where they were so open about their young lives, family, schools, etc., that we felt like family. We learned about South Africa, where Nick was from and his graduation from Ole Miss, and Santa Rosa, Florida and Georgia, where Will was from.
What a great addition to the tennis circuit and the world, two great ambassadors and we met them here in Mansfield. We need more people like Lisa and Philip, and Nick and Will.
