Mansfield Opinion

Pioneering real estate developer will be missed

The Walnut Creek Country Club golf course opened during 1974 with the clubhouse opening shortly thereafter. With the Walnut Creek Valley subdivision offering residential lots for new home construction, a developing slow economy shaped by a worldwide oil crisis, and interest rates rising to 17 percent on home mortgages, Bill Campbell, a local realtor, purchased 20 lots for home construction.

Building a model home as a sales office and offering creative home designs including conversation pits, two-way fireplaces, and high-pitch ceilings, Campbell’s company, Avante Homes, successfully launched the momentum for now modern day homebuilding in Mansfield.

With a history of integrity, quality construction and customer care, Avante Homes evolved into an industry leader in our community. Today many residents own and reside in an Avante Home.

With Bill Campbell’s passing Nov. 7, many long-time residents in the Walnut Creek neighborhood will miss a close friend.
