The Mansfield City Council got its first look at an 88-room Springhill Suites by Marriott hotel that is proposed across the street from Mansfield High School just southeast of Fire Station No. 3. The council approved the hotel on first reading 6-1 with Councilman Cory Hoffman voting no. The proposal requires two more readings and approvals from the City Council
All the rooms will be suites, averaging about 350 square feet each. The hotel will also feature 2,000 square feet of meeting space, an outdoor pool and patio, fitness room and hotel bar.
As part of the project, Cannon Drive will be extended south to the new hotel. Eventually, Cannon Drive will go all the way to the Rustic Meadows neighborhood.
Construction on the Springhill Suites would start in late summer and the hotel could open by late 2017.
