Hot Beats cook in downtown

Hot Beats & Cold Brews kicks off a week of music tonight with a pair of concerts in downtown Mansfield.

Southern rock/country artist Josh Lee starts six nights of free tunes with a performance at MaryLou’s Coffee & Sandwich Shoppe, followed by country artist Brad Russell and Eric Beatty at the back patio of 131 N. Main St.

“We wanted to give Mansfield residents and people in the area a chance to see popular acts right here in the area,” said Steve Cosio, president of Discover Historic Mansfield, which sponsors the events.

Discover Historic Mansfield has switched its concept from four nights of small concerts, followed by a three-day street festival to six nights of intimate live music performances at downtown businesses. Hot Beats & Cold Brews will not have food vendors or food trucks, another switch from previous years.

“Some of the venues are restaurants so we didn’t want there to be a conflict,” Cosio said. “With the number of restaurants downtown, it gives people the opportunity to come down and listen to live music and eat here as well.”

The party continues each night through Saturday, winding up with three concerts on Friday night and four on Saturday. The final concert features singer/songwriter Wendy Colonna at Farr Best Theater.

“Wendy Colonna is always a crowd-pleaser,” Cosio said. “She’s one of the top drawing acts in Austin.”
