Mansfield school district police took a 14-year-old male student into custody Tuesday for allegedly making scary clown threats on social media.
The student was taken to Tarrant County juvenile detention and charged with making a terroristic threat after posting threats on an Instagram account under Killer Clown.
“Even if it’s a prank, threatening lives and suggesting violence is no laughing matter,” the district said in a statement. “Mansfield ISD encourages the community to continue reporting such incidents and making sure no one takes part in this widespread hoax.”
The Mansfield Police Department hasn’t had any reports of clown sightings or threats, said Thad Penkala, police spokesman.
Other creepy clown sightings and threats have been reported in Southlake, Keller, River Oaks and Denton.
Arlington police have responded to seven reports of “concerning clown sightings” from residents since Sept. 30, the department announced Friday on its Facebook page.
“We take threats seriously and will investigate each incident to determine if a criminal offense has occurred,” the post said.
